Customer Challenge

Traditional connectivity solutions impose numerous challenges to achieve operational excellence, including network coverage issues, high operational costs, lack of flexibility and excessive equipment weight/footprint. As a low-cost regional carrier, the customer has high single-aisle aircraft utilization, short turn times and remote operations. To meet their regulatory requirements, they need standard SATCOM and aircraft tracking. To meet their business objectives, they need a much richer IoT like platform.

Partner Solution

The airline installed FLYHT’s AFIRS 228TM hardware across their fleet. This provides the airline worldwide SATCOM voice connectivity in a form factor ideally suited for regional aircraft. The airborne system has a low drag profile and light weight, a prudent choice for fuel sensitive operations. In addition, the system provides worldwide data connectivity over the Iridium satellite network. Standard AFIRS installations include connectivity to numerous aircraft data busses, providing visibility to engine, hydraulics, cockpit indications, door states and other data sources useful for operations and maintenance.

FLYHT worked with the airline to identity and implement monitoring of hundreds of valuable performance indicators. The airline has real-time visibility to aircraft operations, key turn milestones and unplanned maintenance indicators.

FLYHT’s unique on-wing inference technology helps the airline by keeping customization costs low. Further, by utilizing AWS services, FLYHT can keep the supporting operational costs low and is able to pass these savings on to the customer. FLYHT’s Uptime Cloud ground application is an AWS hosted application utilizing Amazon VPC, Amazon EC2, Amazon Route 53, Amazon GuardDuty, Amazon CloudWatch, Amazon Simple Queue Service (SQS), Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3), Amazon Simple Email Service (SES) and Amazon RDS services.
