The FLYHT Aircraft Certification Engineering (ACE) team is looking to add an Avionics Systems focused Project Engineer or Technologist to our team providing engineering services for the integration of aeronautical products into various aircraft types. You will have the opportunity to work on designs and substantiations, prepare engineering data including reports and drawings, conduct airworthiness testing, and provide technical liaison both at home and abroad.  You will also be working closely with the R&D and Quality Assurance departments in the design, testing and roll out of our products.

We’re looking for (not all required) 

  • Bachelor’s degree or post-secondary diploma, preferably in a related field (e.g. Avionics, Electrical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Aircraft Maintenance Engineering) 
  • 5+ years avionics related design experience 
  • Proficient with AutoCAD, DraftSight and Microsoft Office suite 
  • Experience with communication, navigation, audio systems, flight management systems, aircraft electronic flight bags, etc. 
  • Knowledge of Transport Canada, FAA and EASA regulations 
  • Systems integration experience (FMS, Audio, etc.) on fixed wing aircraft 
  • Experience on commercial aircraft  
  • Must possess, or be able to obtain, a valid passport (occasional travel required) 

Assets (not required but would be looked at as differentiators) 

  • Experience on commercial aircraft 
  • Proficient with SolidWorks  

What you’ll be doing  

  • Creating and checking engineering documents and technical drawings.  Specifically wiring diagrams, wire routing diagrams, cable harness assemblies, installation drawings, electrical load analyses, systems substantiation reports, weight & balance amendments, installation instructions, flight manual supplements and instructions for continued airworthiness 
  • Performing troubleshooting of problems and devising solutions 
  • Advising, liaising, collaborating and coordinating with and between all internal and external stakeholders including delegates, airworthiness authorities, and auditors.  
  • Providing customer and installation support both on-site and remote, occasionally outside office hours and on weekends on a rotating basis within the team

We think aviation, aircraft and related operations are fun, challenging and interesting, and so do you! You have 10+ years of experience in Systems Engineering within this awesome industry. You are resolute in defining valid and accurate requirements, you thrive in working in complex system-of-systems environments ensuring that feasibility as well as internal and external stakeholder input is at the forefront. A skilled cooperator and collaborator, you will work with cross functional teams working with multiple concurrent products. You have appropriate technical training and work experience as well as a strong desire to continue to grow in your technical skills and lead others to grow in theirs.  You have worked in an Agile (Scrum) environment, or you are excited to try it for the first time.

What you’ll be doing

  • Produce, allocate and manage complex system-of-system and system level technical requirements.
  • Define system-of-system and systems level hardware and software architectures
  • Allocate requirements to systems and hardware/software components
  • Support feasibility analysis studies for internal and customer opportunities
  • Support Product Owners, technical resources, and stakeholders

We’re looking for (not all required)

  • Sc. Degree in System Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent
  • Successful track record of managing system level requirements for hardware/software products
  • Excellent English communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Good knowledge and understanding of various requirements management tools
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a valid passport (travel is required)
  • Knowledgeable of commercial certification objectives and activities

Assets (not required but would be looked at as differentiators)

  • Knowledge of AS9100 Quality Management System – Requirements for Aviation, Space and Defense Organizations
  • Knowledge of aviation standards such as RTCA DO-160, DO-178C, DO-254, DO-262, ARINC 618, ARINC 619, ARINC 620, ARINC 771, ARINC 781, ARINC 834
  • Experience with aircraft databus standards ARINC 429 & 717, ASCB, MIL-STD-1553 etc.
  • Knowledgeable of commercial certification objectives and activities
  • Experience using JIRA
  • Experience working in an agile software development environment
  • Experience with satellite-based communication products
  • Experience with cellular and/or wi-fi based communication products
  • Experience with industry standard messaging protocols
