Manager, Hardware and Embedded Software Engineering

FLYHT is looking for an experienced Manager of Hardware and Embedded Software Engineering based our Littleton, CO office. Accountabilities:

  • Design, develop, deliver embedded software and hardware products
  • Perform lifecycle management activities for embedded software and hardware products
  • Provide the necessary support to product management to plan product roadmaps
  • Work with program management to plan and deliver project objectives
  • Ensure deadlines are met
  • Contribute to and elevate the level of hardware and software documentation
  • Ensure the thorough testing of products before release to customers and prevent bugs in the field
  • Supporting hardware and embedded software in the field as required

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the work of the embedded software and hardware staff including contractors
  • Prepare budget for area of responsibility
  • Investigate and encourage the use of new technologies
  • Foster innovation
  • Provide estimates for validation of product roadmaps
  • Work with project management for detailed project planning
  • Ensure product configuration management for embedded software and hardware
  • Completion of regulatory certifications and certification tests for airborne hardware products and select embedded software
  • Comply with AS9100 standard requirements
  • Embedded software and hardware Level 2 & 3 support
  • Work with operations to support contract OEM production
  • Technical sales support
  • Perform risk management
  • Manage related processes, tools, and templates
  • Apply continuous improvement to improve performance and reduce costs
  • Mentor and develop subordinate staff
  • Responsible for input into a cross-functional integration plan
  • Take ownership of and ensure timely delivery of integration activities within areas of responsibility
  • Contribute to harmonization of work cultures across multiple offices and foster an expectation of high standards and pursuit of excellence

Qualifications

Required:

  • Post-secondary education in related technical field
  • Minimum 10 years’ aerospace or defense industry experience
  • Experience in systems engineering, verification, and validation of high reliability systems
  • Experience with embedded software development
  • Experience with electronic hardware design
  • Knowledge of SAE AS9100 standard
  • Knowledge of RTCA standards including DO-160, DO-178

Assets:

  • Familiar with the aviation industry market, trends and challenges
  • Understanding of the software and solutions that are used in Airline Operations
