The TAMDAR Weather Sensor

 

The TAMDAR (Tropospheric Airborne Meteorological Data Reporting) sensor measures and detects several atmospheric conditions including:

TAMDAR Weather Sensor installed on a commercial Aircraft

 

– temperature

– pressure

– humidity

– icing

– winds aloft

– turbulence, and

– GPS positioning data

 

 

This weather data is combined with the GPS data and transmitted in real-time from the aircraft to FLYHT’s ground-based data center. Once processed, the data is used by airlines to optimize flight plans.

The data, collected by hundreds of aircraft, supplies critical information to international weather monitoring organizations.
